Secondary Assistance Scheme

The Secondary Assistance Scheme is provided by the State Government through the Department of Education to help eligible families with secondary schooling costs.

Families must apply each school year. Applications do not carry over from previous years.

To be eligible, the student must be enrolled in Years 7 to 12 and studying full-time at a Western Australian school and the parent or guardian must hold an eligible concession card that is valid during Term 1.

Eligible cards may include:

  • Services Australia Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card
  • Services Australia Centrelink Health Care Card
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concession Card

Applications must be completed during Term 1, after your child’s first day of school and before the last day of Term 1.

The allowance consists of two components:

  1. $115 Clothing Allowance paid directly to the parent/guardian or the school if requested.
  2. $235 Education Program Allowance paid directly to the school.

The allowance can help with school-related expenses such as uniforms, shoes, books, personal devices or school charges.
