English

At EGESC, our English program focuses on developing students’ communication, language and literacy skills across reading, viewing, speaking, listening, writing and creating. English instruction is aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum strands of Language, Literature and Literacy, and ABLEWA progression points. Skills are sequenced to build from foundational communication, phonological awareness and early literacy skills to more complex reading, writing, comprehension and language skills, with regular opportunities for consolidation, daily review and meaningful application.

Individual literacy goals are supported through students’ Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and may include targeted reading intervention programs, such as MacqLit, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems, visual supports and other individualised adjustments as required. These supports are used to promote access, participation and progress for all students.
